Artist Spotlight: Pogo

Happy Friday people! So this is a new feature I'd like to make into a semi-regular thing I'm to calling Artist Spotlight.
Today, I'm featuring Nick Bertke of Western Australia, better known to the internet community as Pogo. To those who don't know, Pogo takes bits and pieces of movies, such as Alice in Wonderland, Hook, Harry Potter, Terminator, and many others, and creates remixes that capture the essence of these films. But the way he does this, with such tiny increments of time, would make it really hard to know where it's come from without watching the accompanying video (which are completely awesome as well). Not really phrases, or even words, but fractions of words get blended together and filtered to create a new orchestral language. That, with all the little sound effects and sound scapes he finds to make beats and instruments, make each of his projects unique & quite amazing.
He has gone on to pick up a contract with Disney's music studio Revers Enginears, and worked along side Pixar studios to create a remix for their movie "Up!" (one of my very favorites.) He continued with Reverse Enginears to create remixes for Top Story, Pirates of the Caribbean, and others, till the end of his contract.
His newest projects are based on remixing the real world. His first project "Garden", a remix of his mother in her garden, has received rave reviews, and made Top 25 at the YouTube Play 2010 event at the Guggenheim Museum in New York. His new large scale project called "Remixing the World" started with a remix of the city of Johannesburg, South Africa (another favorite of my'n.) Apparently, NYC is in the works, but I'm most excited about his next trip, which is to Tibet. He's been raising money for this trip, of which you can get involved on his page @ kickstart.com. Can't wait to see what he does for that! Check the video here <--
He'll be touring North America through out 2011, so keep your eyes peeled, and I'll be sure to let you all know if I hear anything. So here are a few of my favorites:

(Upular - Pixar Remix)

(Crimson - Dexter Remix)

(Joburg Jam - Johannesburg Remix)

Hope you've enjoyed this weeks Artist Spotlight as much as I have (I've been jammin' in my chair the whole time.) Have a great weekend everybody.
P&L,
J
